Professor Syed Saeed Ashraf is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, UK. He is also an Honorary Professor in Swansea University School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of England, FRCS and FRCS(C.Th). 

He also secured his research degree, Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Leeds where he defended his thesis on ‘The Inflammatory Response Following Cardiopulmonary Bypass’.

His research interests are Computational Modelling of the Heart, Cardiac Arrhythmias, Inflammatory Response following Cardiopulmonary bypass and mechanical cardiorespiratory support. His clinical area of interest are cardiac arrhythmia and aortic surgery.

He is a founding member of the Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular Engineering Research (ICER), a forum which brings together clinicians and scientists to work on joint interest research areas.

He has published well over 50 original articles and written chapters in various books. He has also presented his research in more than 80 national and international conferences. Various international institutions regularly invite him to give lectures on his research and clinical expertise.

At present, he is supervising two Ph. D research fellows testing different hypothesis. He also takes time out of his clinical commitments to teach and train, undergraduate, postgraduate medical students and cardiothoracic residents.
